The Little Bandit Leader
About this story
My father went out raiding and brought back an eight-year-old boy. That wild look of his was just like the wolf cub I saw when I followed Father to Mobei as a child. Everyone knelt to him and called him Your Highness. I shot him in the back of the neck with my slingshot. My father was so frightened that the blood drained from his face; he grabbed me by the scruff and shoved me under the table. "He is the crown prince." I poked my head out from under the table, blinked, and asked: "What is a crown prince? Is he more formidable than me, a little bandit leader?" Ten years later, three thousand imperial guards camped outside Lưu Vân Stockade to escort Crown Prince Phong Mặc back to the capital. I hid in a haystack no one paid attention to, complaining to heaven and blaming the earth.
