Not long afterward, my older sister came back. Whenever we ate together, I always felt there was something strange about the way she looked at me.
The very next moment, my sister casually remarked, “Quý Thần Dần has a girlfriend now.”
I choked a little and asked nervously, “Sis, how do you know?”
As she ate, my sister showed me their group chat and said, “That guy brags about his relationship every day. No matter who invites him out, he won’t go. When they ask why, he just says he has to be with his girlfriend.”
I felt like I was sitting on pins and needles, so all I could do was say, “Well, sounds like you two are really happy together.”
My sister gave a scornful laugh. “How could they not be? I set them up.”
I froze for a few seconds, nearly dropping to my knees in front of her. Then I immediately started begging her to forgive me, pouting and carrying on in every way I could.
My sister pushed me away in disgust and pointed behind me. “Quý Thần Dần is here.”
I thought she was teasing me again, so I kept sweet-talking her. “Ten Quý Thần Dầns couldn’t compare to how wonderful you are.”
Just then, a familiar voice came from behind me. “Is that so?”
Oh my God!
I stiffly turned around and saw Quý Thần Dần watching me with narrowed eyes, his expression somewhere between a smile and a frown.
The air was thick with the words “I’m done for.”
My sister smoothly chimed in, telling him to hurry up and take me home so I wouldn’t interfere with her work.
I asked curiously, “What do you have to do?”
Then I followed her gaze and saw a man in a suit leaning against a car door, looking this way without expression. I had no idea how long he’d been waiting, but he gave off an overwhelming sense of pressure.
Quý Thần Dần pulled me away, his voice carrying a hint of authority. “You should be worrying about yourself.”
Once it was just the two of us, I asked him how he’d managed to convince my sister.
Quý Thần Dần didn’t answer. Instead, he just nodded and remarked, “I hear I’m not very important.”
So petty!
But I knew I was in the wrong, so I leaned in and kissed his cheek. “Will this make it up to you?”
Quý Thần Dần raised an eyebrow, his expression saying, “That’s all?”
I closed my eyes, steeled myself, and rose onto my toes to kiss his lips.
Quý Thần Dần’s eyes widened slightly. After only a moment’s hesitation, he wrapped an arm around the back of my neck and deepened the kiss.
It was a long while before he finally let me go. He murmured in my ear, “That’s better.”
Then he couldn’t help pulling me into his arms, smiling happily.
The warm winter sunshine fell over us, bathing us both in light. Our future, too, was bright.
