About this story

“After you come across an accident scene, don’t stare.” “If someone waves down your car in the middle of the night, don’t stop casually.” “Don’t think that driving a big truck gives you enough presence to avoid disaster.” I have kept my master’s warnings in mind for more than ten years. But tonight, I made an exception. Late at night, I encountered a family of four waving for help. As soon as the man saw my headlights, he dropped to his knees by the roadside and kowtowed repeatedly, begging. Their black car was tilted at the edge of the road and looked broken down. All four looked terrified. I let them get in. The man sat in the passenger seat, face pale, trembling as he said that a strange red supercar had been chasing them along this mountain road. I reassured him not to worry—I drive a heavy tractor-trailer, and no one would dare cause trouble. Just then, the radio began broadcasting news of a traffic accident: on this mountain road, a serious collision had just occurred between a red supercar and a black car. The driver of the red supercar had died on the spot.
