I’m Haisha, the youngest daughter of the God of Death.
My older sister, Hải Lạp, inherited our father’s innate talent: once she calls someone by name, their death is never far off.
Because she was so powerful, our father had high hopes for her. He said outright that he hoped she would succeed him as the God of Death.
As it turned out, my sister ran away from home the very next day.
I heard she went to northern Myanmar to become a local kingpin.
So our father had no choice but to focus on me, his daughter, trembling from head to toe. He grabbed me by the collar and threw me into an apprenticeship as a God of Death.
People have three souls and seven spirits. My job is to take one soul from those consumed by resentment and grant their wishes.
The only pity is that after these innocent souls are reincarnated, losing a fragment of their soul may leave them with a disability.
But it’s all right. As long as they do enough good deeds, that lost soul will eventually grow back.
I don’t know if my father arranged it on purpose, but the first soul I collected belonged to a girl who had died in northern Myanmar.
While helping the girl get revenge, I took the opportunity to visit my sister.
It was amazing how my sister ruled this part of northern Myanmar.
When I found her, there was a glowing girl’s spirit by her side.
The glowing girl was feeding her grilled skewers.
I might be a little jealous.
I want someone to feed me grilled skewers, too.
When she saw me appear, the glowing girl instinctively stepped in front of my sister. “Who are you?”
My sister pulled the glowing girl back.
“This is my younger sister, Haisha.”
Then she turned to me. “I’m not coming home to take over the family business!”
I grinned wickedly, then dropped to my knees in front of my sister, tears streaming down my face.
But no matter how much I cried, my sister remained unmoved.
“There’s no chance I’m going back. There are grilled skewers to eat here, and criminals to play with. I love it here.”
I sat beside my sister, watching her play with wild abandon and joke around with the glowing girl.
Suddenly, I felt like running away from home, too.
But after completing my first assignment, I saw the girl let go of her burdens and reincarnate in peace.
A warmth filled my heart.
Maybe I’ll give this job a few more tries.
